A special note about the rides in the upper lot. A few use motion in a completely different way, which can cause some motion sickness. We will indicate what rides are in our list below, but keep in mind if you are prone to motion sickness, there are three rides that will do it, but only one I will say is worth it if you pack the Dramamine and Sea Sick bands.

The upper lot has the most family-friendly attractions in Universal Studios California. It has a mixture of kids’ rides and adult rides. The new rollercoaster Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift is currently taking over the old Fear Factor Live and Animal Actors Stage. We will share more details as they become available, but they are shooting for a 2026 open date. For now, know that a fast-paced DRIFTING coaster is coming to the theme park, and it’s one of a kind!
Flight of the Hippogriff

This cute, family-friendly roller coaster is a must-do, and I have to admit, for the most part, I see more adults waiting in line than I see kids in line. The queue line has some hidden gems throughout it, like Fang, Buckbeak, and Hagrids House. While you are walking, you can hear Pixies working in the bushes.
The kid-friendly coaster gives you an amazing perspective of the castle before it whips you around quickly through the multiple banks before heading back to the docking station.
While this is a quick ride, it is fun no matter what!
Harry Potter’s Forbidden Journey
48″ Height Requirement
For the first of our list of motion sickness rides, we suggest skipping the Forbidden Journey Ride. However, I will say this one is a must-do, even if you get motion sickness. Once you ride it one time, you can skip it after that. The fabulous visual effects cannot be explained and have to be
Even if you have NO intention of riding this ride out of fear of sickness, you should walk through the queue line if it’s not too long of a wait to experience an unforgettable adventure. You will see things throughout the Hogwarts castle grounds like Dumbledore’s office, the Mandrake in the Herbology Class, Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom, and so much more.
You can always dip out at the very last second and tell the ride operators you do not want to get one. The queue line should not be skipped ;)

If you are looking for live entertainment, there are a few things to partake in while you are in the upper lot. Between shows, character sightings, and carnival games, there are a lot of other things to do in the upper lot than just enjoying the Universal Studios California attractions.
Water World
“WaterWorld” at Universal Studios Hollywood is an electrifying live show set in a post-apocalyptic world. It features daring stunts performed on water, including breathtaking dives and explosive action sequences. The show is a must-see for those seeking action-packed entertainment and massive explosions.
Brace yourself to face action head-on and prepare to get absolutely soaked in the process, especially if you’re seated in the splash zones near the front. There really isn’t a bad spot in the house, but if you want the best view if you are looking at the bleachers, sit on the right side closest to the center.
Keep an eye out for thrilling jet skis throughout the performances that add an extra layer of excitement to the show. After the adrenaline-pumping spectacle, you can meet the talented stunt team and performers for photos and a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the thrilling production.

World Famous Studio Tour
No Height Requirement
Before we head to the official Lower Lot, I want to quickly discuss the second lower lot that you can access from the upper lot at Universal Studios Hollywood. This lot is to the right once you get to Simpsons instead of going left and using the 4 sets of large escalators.
This way, you will be taken down a set of escalators to the studio tour’s lower lot. There is stroller parking, two snack stations, and bathrooms.
MAKE SURE YOUR ENTIRE PARTY PEES BEFORE YOU GET ON YOUR TRAM!
You will also see about 50 signs through the queue telling you there are no bathrooms. The tour is about 75 minutes long.
My favorite part is that you can grab your favorite snack and beverage, including alcoholic drinks, board your tram, and enjoy the ride.
The best spot to sit is on the inside right of the tram, and to be honest, the third tram car, to be super specific, and up until 5 if you want to be super specific. You get a perfect view of everything, including Bruce from Jaws.
A few people really like tram car one as well, but we feel you miss some really great things being the first car. you do get a shot of the drive and your tram tour guide.

The slow-moving dark ride takes you through multiple Mario maps as you challenge bowser. You will collect gold coins through the race and shells to take out opponents. The main goal is to gather more than 100 coins to win the race.
This ride has state-of-the-art technology, with one-size-fits Mario caps that the 3D glasses clip onto. Unlike other 3D style rides, you can wear glasses under your 3D goggles with no issue.

Interactive Bands
There are six bands to choose from in Universal Studios Hollywood, but we just saw the lineup of bands available to purchase in Epic Universe next year. We are SUPER stocked to take home one of those bands when we go. For now, we have the special edition 1-year anniversary Gold Mario Band, and the Yoshi Band. You will need the band to interact in the area and track point on the Mario Kart ride. The band is not required to ride Mario Kart only to track. The band is required for the mini games around Super Nintendo World.
Don’t forget to try out Toadstool Cafe in the Lower Lot and Power Up Cafe in the Upper Lot for some fun-themed foods and treats at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Riders will board specially designed vehicles and embark on a pulse-pounding journey through the streets of Los Angeles alongside their favorite characters from the films.

Two days is more than enough time to experience Universal Studios California attractions without having to purchase the express pass. We highly suggest a combination of a general admission ticket and an early access pass for one or two of the days, depending on what you get done.

Early Entry Pass
This early access ticket is strictly for access to Super Nintendo World. This pass gives you access to the area early before the theme park officially opens. This does, in a sense, give you access to the entire park early, but none of the other rides open until the theme park opens. This pass will help you get a head start in the Super Nintendo World area.
Super Nintendo World is so immersive and has a lot to it. You could spend your entire day in that area between the ride, multiple interactive mini-games, Bowser Jr., mini figure scavenger hunt, and Toadstool Cafe. The early entry pass helps cut some of the time you will spend.
Jump in line for the queue for Toadstool when you first get into the area, still to this day, an entire year later, it still books up for the day.
You can check for Early Access time on the Universal Studios Hollywood website for the day of your visit.
Universal Express Pass
There is only one Universal Express ticket available to purchase, and this allows you to bypass the stand by line.

If you are an annual pass holder, it comes with your annual pass, and you have express access to rides after 3:00 pm. The second way to get it is to purchase the Express Access Pass. This one is a little more on the spendy side but COMPLETELY worth it on a busy day. There is no free parking at Universal Studios Hollywood. Even if you have dinner in CityWalk and see a Movie, you will pay $15 for parking. There is a valet parking option as well.
