Easy Royal Icing

We whipped up this Royal Icing recipe the other day after making gingerbread cookies and found the maple extract added just the perfect flavor to the gingerbread cookies.

Finding an easy recipe is really important in our house. Baking and cooking shouldn’t be difficult and we are always finding way to make everything enjoyable and easy.

This easy Royal Icing brings together the best flavors to compliment your treats. With or without meringue powder this royal icing comes together very easy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Powder Sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons Warm Water

  • 1/2 Tablespoon Light Corn Syrup

  • 1/4 Teaspoon Maple Extract, Vanilla Extract, or other flavor

  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon Meringue Powder
    - 1 Additional Tablespoon if using Meringue Powder

Directions

  • Place powdered sugar in a medium bowl and set aside
    1 1/2 Cups Powder Sugar
  • In a separate bowl, mix together warm water, light corn syrup, and extract. Stir the mixture until well combined and dissolved.
    2 Tablespoons Warm Water, 1/2 Tablespoons Light Corn Syrup, and 1/4 Teaspoon Extract either maple, vanilla, or other flavor.
  • Add sugar water to powdered sugar, add Meringue powder, and stir until well combined. You might find the royal icing to be very thick. Add 1 tablespoon of water until the desired thickness is reached. If it becomes too thin, slowly add powdered sugar by teaspoons until the desired thickness is reached.
    1 1/2 Teaspoon Meringue Powder, 1 Tablespoon Water, and 1 Teaspoon Powdered Sugar as needed for desired thickness.
  • Use Immediately for best results

  • Split Royal Icing into separate bowls and add colors as wanted. Gel colors are best for true colors, and come in a variety of options.
  • If you want to wait and use the icing at another point, cover it tightly and use it within 1 or 2 days. Stir before using to break up any large chunks and add more water as needed for consistency.
